Ioannis Mexis presented the paper with title ‘Mitigation of Voltage Unbalance in Rural Low Voltage Networks Using Single-phase BESS Inverters’ at the CIRED 2021 conference. The title of the session was ‘Power Quality and Electromagnetic Compatibility’.

This paper has been co-authored with TU Dresden. The paper presents the application of single-phase battery energy storage (BESS) units for mitigating voltage unbalance levels in an unbalanced distribution network. The BESS inverters are controlled to mitigate voltage unbalance caused by single-phase and three-phase load demands which are modelled based on real data. The effectiveness of the developed control strategy on unbalance reduction is evaluated for different BESS locations in the distribution system.
