Since January 2021, three members of the group have had their PhD vivas, Rob Ziolek, Demi Pink and Adam Suhaj. Each one of them have successfully defended their thesis, and have been asked to submit minor corrections. Rob was the first to have his defense on 18 February 2021. He was examined by Paola Carbonne and Flor Siperstein. Then Demi had her viva on 19 March 2021, and was examined by Fernando Bresme and Jordi Faraudo. Then most recently Adam Suhaj had his viva on 7 May, and was examined by Jorge Bernandino de la Serna and Mario Orsi. After each having very productive PhD careers within the group, they are each moving into the next steps of their respective careers. Demi has started as a research scientist at AWE; Rob has started a postdoc within our group, in which he will do both experiment and simulations of molecular beacon based sensors for the SARS-CoV-2 virus; and Adam is starting as a data scientist within HMRC.
