Discovering New Ways of Designing Materials

We develop approaches and tools to investigate and elucidate peculiar new phenomena that arise from complex many-body effects in materials and molecules. Those phenomena arise in complex experiments, such as near zero temperature for superconductivity, or are part of our every day life, such as the binding of myoglobin to oxygen.

Past and Future Conferences

NGSCES 2017 (applications are open!)
We are delighted to organize the next NGSCES conference in Barcelona: The New Generation in Strongly Correlated Electron Systems, September 4-8, 2017, ICFO, Barcelona. In continuation of the the successful NGSCES conference series, NGSCES 2017 will provide a forum in particular for young researchers in the field of strongly correlated electrons (PhD students, postdocs, young professors and group leaders) to exchange ideas and stimulate new research directions. The conference focuses on new theoretical and experimental research devoted to improve our understanding of strongly correlated matter, from model systems to materials. Topical sessions will include: Non-Equilibrium Quantum Dynamics, Correlation effects in Topological Insulators and Spin-Orbit Coupled systems, Strong correlations in nanoscopic systems, Quantum Magnetism, Unconventional Superconductivity. In addition to the invited talks, we will have a large number of contributed talks and a poster session. All the information can be found on the website: http://ngsces2017.icfo.eu The deadline for abstract submission for oral presentations is May 18. Apply here !

GLOBEX 2017 (applications are open!)
We are delighted to teach a 30 credit module at PKU (Beijing, China) at the GLOBEX summer school. Globex aims to promote international academic exchange. It is designed to provide students with a study-abroad experience by allowing them to take 1-2 courses over a period of about 3 weeks in July and getting 3-6 university credits. The program consists of a suite of English-language classes as well as other activities. Through Globex, PKU Engineering links to a broad range of leading engineering colleges around the world. Most courses are engineering, but there are several business and China-related courses, and Globex is open to all majors. Apply here !

ASESMA 2015
We are delighted to contribute to the ASESMA-2015 conference! The African School series on Electronic Structure Methods and Applications (ASESMA) is planned on a biennial basis from 2010 to 2020. The schools provide an introduction to the theory of electronic structure, with an emphasis on the computational methods for practical calculations. The exact venue of the 2015 conference is expected to be in South Africa. [link]

RAMM Conference 2014

We contributed recently to organize the RAMM-2014 conference. The Recent Appointees in Materials Modelling (RAMM) conference provided the opportunity to build national networks among new academic appointees from across the UK with different but complementary backgrounds in the general area of materials modelling. The conference included talks covering research topics ranging from simulations of condensed and soft matter, to functional or catalytic materials discovery, and gave an overview of the breadth of expertise in the UK. CCP9 2014
We contributed to the "CCP9 Young Researchers meeting" (March 2014). This meeting focused on younger members of our community, ongoing CCP9 activities and future strategy for our CCP. We gave a both a technical presentation and an application talks, to expose the younger academics to cutting edge methods. The meeting focused in particular on issues of particular interest to PhD students, Postdocs and Fellows. Slides of my talk can be found here [link].

Chandrasekhar Lecture, Bangalore, India
We were delighted to contribute to the prestigious Chandrasekhar Lecture series "From Models to Materials" in Bangalore ! The conference in particular hosted a series of lecture from Prof. Antoine George on DMFT, and hands-on sessions taught to the students by various experts of the field. Here is a link to the program [link] and here a link to a video recording of my talk [link].
