On 29 November, Mateusz Bieniek conducted his PhD viva, which was examined by Dr. Paul Mulheran (University of Strathclyde) and Dr. Giorgia Brancolini (CNR NANO, Modena, Italy). First, Mat gave an exit seminar to an audience including members of the Lorenz Lab, the two examiners and Dr. Willie Taylor, Mat’s superviser at the Francis Crick Institute. After that, Mat had a four hour oral examination. The examiners were quite impressed with the work Mat conducted during the course of his PhD, and have requested minor corrections. Mat started a postdoc with Prof. Peter Coveney at University of College London a week after his viva.
