Biography

Rob graduated from the University of Sussex with 1st Class Honours in Chemistry. He was the recipient of eight university prizes for academic excellence and undertook undergraduate research with John Turner (Royal Society of Chemistry/Nuffield Foundation), Mark Osborne (University of Sussex JRA award) and Hazel Cox (final year MChem project). Rob then joined the CANES CDT in the Department of Mathematics at King’s College London, where he studied applied mathematics for a year (MSc in Non-Equilibrium Systems, awarded with Distinction). Rob then worked towards his PhD in Physics in the Lorenz group, during which time worked in collaboration with Cecile Dreiss and Mesfin Tsige. His thesis focused on simulating soft matter self-assembly, investigating the behaviour of soft matter interfaces, and integrating machine learning techniques with molecular simulation. Rob assisted with the teaching of mathematics in the Department of Chemistry and computer simulation techniques in the Department of Physics during his PhD. Rob is currently a Postdoctoral Research Associate working with Chris, Mark Green and Nanda Frascione (King’s Forensics). He is investigating biosensors based on DNA-based ligand-protein interactions and the structure of conjugated polymers using atomistic simulations, quantum chemistry and applied machine learning methods.
