How to contact me?

Generally speaking, if you have some questions for me, is to come and see me personally by booking an appointment. All appointments made are booked in my calendar at times I am not otherwise engaged, so you are guaranteed to see me, unless I am unable to come to my office due to circumstances beyond my control.

You are welcome to contact me by email and I will try to respond to emails within 4 working days (that excludes weekends and holidays!). If a query is too complex to respond to with a brief email, I will ask you to book an appointment and discuss the matter with me in person.

Office hours

During term time, I also have 2 hours of drop-in sessions (aka office hours) per week. During drop-in sessions, students are seen on a first come first serve basis. If your query turns out to necessitate a longer discussion and the drop-in session is particularly busy, I may ask you to book an appointment. No appointment is necessary to attend drop-in sessions and please don't ask for an appointment during drop-in sessions. Drop-in sessions for the current term are published on this page during term time.

Between 12 January 2018 and 29 March 2018, I am available without appointment on Tuesdays 14:00—16:00.

Urgent issues

If a concern is urgent, I will try to deal with it as soon as possible but bear in mind that, as an academic, I am not routinely available in my office to deal with urgent issues. If you have a very urgent concern that the department needs to know about and the earliest available appointment or drop-in session is too late, please contact your programme administrator in the departmental office right away either via email or in person. If I need to know about the issue, it is a good idea to email both the programme administrator and me so that we are both aware.

If your urgent issue concerns a deadline extension, please bear in mind that I am unable to allow deadline extensions for individual students. If an entire class or cohort is affected by adverse circumstances beyond their control, I am happy to extend the deadline for the entire class. If you wish to apply for a deadline extension for yourself, please apply for this via Mitigating Circumstances Form as specified in your Student Handbook.

If you are one of my personal tutees with a significant problem that I need to know about, please inform me (and your programme administrator) of your problem and the steps you are taking to address it via email and book the earliest suitable appointment. Note that the university provides a broad range services that can support you in various capacities, which are listed here.
