Chipp Jansen is a PhD candidate in Robotics at Kings College London researching human-robotic interaction in in visual arts. In the past, he has worked as a creative computing consultant and interdisciplinary artist in the areas of data visualisation, information aesthetics, interactive installation, and computational architecture. Recently his artistic practice has taken a physical materials direction with direct carving in stone and printmaking.
Previous projects include exhibiting a light-enhanced sculpture for the City of Tampa’s Lights on Tampa 2009 Festival (Tampa Public Mood Ring), a cartographic Rorschach generator for Turbulence.org’s Net Art Commission (Invisible Influenced), and experimental fabrication research involving carbon fibre architectural composites with Michael Silver Architects and Automated Dynamics.
Chipp trained as an engineer before going on to complete a MSc of Computer Science and a MFA in Fine Arts at the University of Michigan, and an MA in Geography/GIS at Hunter College in New York. He has taught students of computer science, fine arts and architecture at Brunel Univeristy London, King's College London, University of Michigan, Cornell University, the Pratt Institute of Art, Pace University, City College-CUNY, and Brooklyn College-CUNY.
