Basics of Toeplitz determinants through examples

An informal postgraduate level lecture course at King's College London, October 2017.

Lecturer: Nikolai Nikolski (Institute of Mathematics, Bordeaux University, and Chebyshev Laboratory, St.Petersburg)

Schedule:

Abstract:

We discuss modern presentations of three basic applications of Toeplitz determinants - Caratheodory-Gauss interpolation theorem, Szegö-Weyl limit distribution of Toeplitz spectra, and Szegö-Onsager second term asymptotics. No preliminary knowledge on Toeplitz matrices/operators is supposed.
