Announcements

  • Revision classes will take place in the week starting on April 23. To make good use of them, please attempt to solve previous years exams as well as the Revision Set in the "Problems and Solutions" section and bring along any question you may have.
  • Answers to Class Test 3 are available here
  • The Third Class Test is on Monday March 12. For venue and time click here. You can prepare by practicing on the Sample available in the section Class test sample
  • Answers to Class Test 2 available here .
  • The new agreed time for Office hours is Thursday 10-13. Please note that I will not be able to make my Office hours on February 23 because of a clash with another meeting. Please contact me by email to arrange to meet at a different time.
  • The Second Class Test will be on Monday February 27. For venues and time click here. You can prepare by using the sample class test in the section Class test sample

  • Lectures will start on Thursday January 19.
  • Tutorials will start on Monday 23 and the timetable for tutorial groups is as follows:
  • Walk-in tutorials for all 1st year courses will be held by Mrs Jane Bennett-Rees on Wednesdays, at 2pm in Room S5.20.
  • Pop-in tutorials will start on January 17 and will be held by Anuj Shrestha, Iryna Lewis Kerr and Ahana Datta on Mondays, 12-13, Wednesdays, 11-12 and Thursdays, 14-15 respectively, in Room S5.20.

    Structure
    The course will consist of lectures (Thursdays 13-14 and Fridays 10-12 in room K6.29 ) and tutorials (1 hour on Mondays).

    Course work and tutorials
    Weekly problem sheets will be put up on this website each week. Attempts at solutions of assigned homework should be handed in to your tutor during the tutorial classes. Problems will in part be actively worked on and discussed during tutorial classes. Your solutions to homework assignments will be commented on and difficulties arising will be discussed during tutorials and in class. Problems studied and discussed at the tutorials will be regarded as examinable material.
    Class tests
    Class tests are of a multiple-choice character. There is no re-sit possibility. Please check here for class-tests timetables and regulations.

    Problems and Solutions

    A solution should be written clearly, with the problem restated, lines of reasoning for decisive logical steps given in concise form, and final solution clearly marked, and discussed if appropriate. Tutors are not obliged to mark drafts !
